..The Tayside Institute for Health Studies was established in 2002 to reinforce and expand the contribution made by University of Abertay Dundee in relation to education, research and consultancy in health care within Tayside and Scotland. In collaboration with local NHS Trusts, the University of Abertay Dundee has functioned as a major presence in nurse education in Scotland for more than 25 years. Tayside Institute for Health Studies brings together staff from a range of contributory disciplines, such as nursing, mental health, psychology, counselling, health studies, health policy and sociology to provide a broad-based, flexible response to education and research in health care.

The aims of the Tayside Institute for Health Studies (TIHS) are:


• to function as a centre of excellence in education, training, research and consultancy in health care
• to promote and model interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and inter-professional ways of working
• to facilitate lifelong learning and continuing professional development in healthcare practitioners by providing access to advanced education and training in clinical and research skills
• to create opportunities for practitioners to undertake research that will enhance their professional effectiveness.
